15 december 06, time (2006, gr)
• December 15th, 2006this is a demo version of a new midwest song we have been playing live–some of you have asked if we have a recording of it. we don’t, but we do have this which sounds nothing like what we do on stage.
15 december 06, one (1998, iowa city)
• December 15th, 2006my friend paul and i again here, he is singing lead. i had just purchased a djembe drum, and was jazzed to put it on a recording. i threw a bunch of reverb on it in the mix, trying to make it sound bigger. it worked a bit, but just a bit. paul wrote the tune, and i think it is a good one.
15 december 06, all of this (2005, gr)
• December 15th, 2006here is a song that i wrote after the festival of faith and music in ‘05. i recorded it with my friend erin, she sings with me here. it is a weird tune, but one i have been wanting others to hear.
15 december 06, wandering king (2005, gr)
• December 15th, 2006in january of 2005 i taught a class called “deconstructing the king: the life and art of elvis presley.” for final projects, students were asked to do a creative project that communicated something critical about elvis–we had some great work, including paintings, poetry, and such. i did the project with them and wrote and recorded this song. it is my only song with samples.
13 december 06, night before christmas
• December 13th, 2006i did this late last night as an homage to an old art carney recording we listened to as kids, from the 1970s i think. a rapper i am not, a crapper on the other hand, i am. enjoy.
12 december 06, jazz home (1998, iowa city)
• December 12th, 2006my first band was named revelation, a christian rock band filled with long hair, rippin’ guitars and hormones (oh, and jesus too). when i graduated highschool i left chicago and the band. several years later paul from the band visited me in iowa city and we recorded this in my living room. he is playing guitar. we recorded it in one take, and while it is a bit rough in spots, i like the sonic space of it. i mostly like the memory.

12 december 06, jet plane (1992, calvin college)
• December 12th, 2006so i thought i would use this site to share some of my unreleased music, some gems and some not-so-gems from some of my musical past. this post has been on my mind today, it is a performance of john denver’s “jet plane” that a good friend adam miller and i did when i was a freshman at calvin college. adam and i made some good music i think, and this was a final performance we did before he left school. i have seen him once since, and miss him this time of year–we played this show in december 1992. hope you like it.
